Johannes research centers on acute stroke reperfusion strategies and imaging analyses to provide and improve individualized decision making in the acute setting. Currently, he is involved in the organization of the SWIFT-DIRECT trial (, evaluating direct mechanical thrombectomy versus the bridging approach. Apart from his involvement in randomized-controlled trials, he is working together with Urs Fischer and Jan Gralla on international projects regarding the identification of factors influencing the outcome of endovascularly treated patients. In the SCAN, he is collaborating with Raphael Meier and Richard McKinley to establish automated prediction algorithms for infarct evolution in patients undergoing acute reperfusion treatments.
